Background
Salt Life is more than a clothing brand—it’s a lifestyle. The Salt Life website needed to embody the diversity of the ocean and the character of the Salt Life brand while being extremely fast and highly functional. Not a small task!
The website houses all of Salt Life’s products, and is also a hub for an entire way of life—fishing charter information, salt water fish facts, live weather information for different coastal areas, and years and years of blog content about beach and ocean lifestyles are some of the things the website has.
Corra’s job was to make a great looking website that suits Salt Life’s brand, and to have that website be as cutting edge and lightning fast as a boat lover's dream vessel.
With a PWA, a headless site, and Salt Life opting for Corra’s TotalCare package, Corra was ready to build them an incredible future proof site including maintenance and improvements for the years to come. With a 20% growth in revenue since the site has been live, there’s more clear proof that a technologically savvy and highly functional website is key to driving growth.

Challenge
REELING IN THE BIG ONE
Salt Life’s website is incredible in its diversity—it’s both product and feature rich. Corra’s task was to build a website in line with Salt Life’s voice that includes the massive amount of data on Salt Life’s site all while keeping their new headless, PWA, cloud-platformed site performing at the absolute highest level.
Besides housing all of Salt Life's products—which are numerous—it also holds blog content and information that help Salt Life be a hub of an ocean-centric lifestyle. Salt Life wants to outfit their customers for their lifestyle, but also wants to educate them on the best places and ways to live that lifestyle.
The main thrust of our challenge was including this amount of information while having the website operate at exclusively peak performance. Considering Salt Life is the fastest webpage Corra has ever built, and that the redesign reduced overall load time by 80%, it’s fair to say we achieved our goals and then some.
Solution
We’re Going to Need a Faster Website
Creating Salt Life’s website began with Corra’s in-house expertise. Above all else, Salt Life needed their massive amount of webpage content to be easily and quickly navigable. The only way to have a website move as fast as the Salt Life site does is to build a headless site with a PWA.
This modern intervention both allows Salt Life to have creative control of the site and also creates a site that is technologically up to date. The site has practically zero load times no matter which part of the site is being navigated to or from: fishing charters, blue-fin tuna information, or live weather information for the Florida Keys—it doesn’t matter. Every part of the site loads in the blink of an eye.
Salt Life received a state of the art website, and they also signed up for Corra’s TotalCare program which provides them 24/7 service for any technological or infrastructure issues, as well as ongoing strategic guidance. Corra shepherds our clients to the future while making sure their site is always functioning at peak performance. If there’s ever even a slight issue our Total Care program is there to troubleshoot it for you.

Who Needs Sonar? Redesign the XML Sitemap Instead
Corra also drastically improved the site’s XML sitemap to make content more easily discoverable. The treasure trove of content and product on Salt Life’s website isn’t valuable if it can’t be accessed. Corra made sure that the content iseasy to find, and that it loads immediately once it is found.
Corra’s new build of the site also increased organic traffic. One of the benefits of using a PWA is this increase in traffic—because a PWA eliminates the need for any kind of app or content intermediary—all the content is on the site, creating an increase in organic traffic. Users who want to purchase Salt Life products or engage with the brand have only one place to go—the Salt Life website.
Solution
It’s important for a website's usefulness to match the function of its brand. For instance, Salt Life is a company focused around the water—water sports, boating, fishing—and these are activities that often take customers away from internet access.
With a PWA, a customer can have the website loaded on their phone while out of internet service and have the website still be totally searchable as long as it was loaded while the customer was in service. This way, a Salt Life customer can be out on their boat, realize they don’t have something they might need, and then look it up on the Salt Life website. Then when they get back to internet service, they make the purchase.
Be Part of Your Community with Custom T-Shirts
Salt Life’s website is an ecommerce storefront, but it is also a water-lifestyle community hub. From fishing and snorkeling booking resources, to information about local fish and water flora, Salt Life wants to educate you as much as they want to outfit you. In an intersection between commerce and community building, Corra has built Salt Life a custom T-shirt configurator so customers can proudly showcase whatever community they’re a part of.
The configurator allows a design to be put on the front and/or back of the shirt, comes in six different colors, and allows up to 30 characters of text to be placed on the front or back. Salt Life offers so many resources to their customers because they understand loving the water isn’t merely a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. The custom T-shirt configurator is one more way Salt Life offers their customers a chance to showcase the communities they are a part of.
This type of functionality and utility is not only at the heart of Salt Life’s brand, it is at the heart of Corra’s service to our clients: we make websites that do what brands need them to do. Every brand needs a different website, and Corra is up to each and every one of those challenges.

Results
Corra was tasked with making a website that was faster than any site we’d previously made—and we succeeded. The Salt Life site is one of the most feature rich ecommerce sites and it is also one of the fastest. Salt Life opted into Corra’s TotalCare program which means their website will be updated, maintenanced, and cared for to ensure that its quality and utility never dips below excellent.
The XML sitemap was redesigned to make the content as discoverable as possible and the inclusion of a PWA increased the organic traffic of the website by 40%. After the headless build was installed, Salt Life’s website reduced its page load times by 80%.
Salt Life’s website is one of the fastest websites on the internet while being one of the most original. Partnering with Corra means there’s no fish too big to reel in.
